Construction of Diamond Hill to Kai Tak Tunnel from new Kai Tak Station to the upgraded Diamond Hill Station, as part of the new Shatin to Central Link for MTRC. The 850m twin tunnel alignment, with cross passages, is located in the area previously occupied by the old Kai Tak International Airport, and will be constructed using a 7.4m diameter EPB (Earth Pressure Balance) TBM, using SFRC segments forming the concrete lining that provides better long term durability. An innovative ‘bottom up’ cut and cover method, to form the Emergency Cross-Over structure, was accepted as an alternative design.
